October Programs and Events
Geocaching for Beginners on Saturday, October 8th provides an opportunity to combine technology and walking to search for temporary hidden items in the park. Sunday Afternoon Hikes begin on Sunday, October 9th and continue for the rest of the month. Enjoy the Halloween Heritage & Moonlight Walk on Saturday, October 15th (intended for adults). Bring the family to the Halloween Heritage & Pumpkin Painting program on Tuesday, October 18th to explore the history of Halloween. After the Goulish Gallop One-Mile Fun Run/Walk on Saturday, October 29th, you can keep the Halloween theme going. On Sunday, October 30th, wear your costume and join the Creepy Crawlies & Costumes: Halloween Hike to learn the truth about four feared animals. Ghostly Trail and Zombie Evasion Fun Run/Walk
Join the Friends of Kings Gap on Saturday, October 29th for the Ghoulish Gallop One-Mile Fun Run/Walk. The $5 individual or $15 family registration fee includes a T-shirt, which will be worn as part of the race, and hot dogs, s'mores, and scary stories around the camp fire. The run begins and ends at the Kings Gap Environmental Education Center parking lot at the top of the mountain. The course will follow a winding path complete with ghouls and zombies. Runners will stop at four designated goblin stops to devour gooey treats in the prescribed ghostly method. Drips, splatters, mouth smears, and hand wipes are highly encouraged on your fresh white shirt to scare away the monsters. The registration form contains complete details. Evening of Jazz
On Friday, November 4th from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. join the Friends of Kings Gap in the Cameron-Masland Mansion for a fine evening of jazz featuring the Steve Rudolph Trio.
Ticket prices are $35 per person and must be purchased in advance. The proceeds benefit the Friends of Kings Gap in our ongoing efforts to support, protect, and enhance Kings Gap State Park and its programs. Holiday Open House
On Sunday, December 4th and December 11th from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day, enjoy this once-a-year opportunity to explore the Cameron-Masland Mansion, a gracious mountain stone villa built in 1908 as a summer home. Enjoy music of the season as you take a self-guided tour of both floors of the mansion in seasonal decor. Light refreshments will be offered throughout the afternoon each day. Holiday Coffee House
Join the Friends of Kings Gap for a Holiday Coffee House on Saturday, December 10th starting at 7:00 p.m. Enjoy coffee, conversation, music, and light refreshments. The Visitors Duo will provide the music for this event. The Cameron-Masland Mansion will be decorated for the holidays. The Coffee House is free, but donations will be kindly accepted.
