July/August Programs and Events
Bring your lawn chair and enjoy Music on the Mountain on Sunday, July 1st and Sunday, August 5th from 3:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Yoga on the Terrace continues on Sundays through July beginning on Sunday, July 1st from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Join the Wednesday Workout Hikes throughout the month beginning on Wednesday, July 4th from 6:00 p.m. to sunset. Astronomy for Beginners on Saturday, July 7th from 9:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. provides an opportunity to observe and learn about our night sky. Enjoy a Movie on the Mountain on Friday, July 20th (see below for more information). View the Perseids Meteor Shower Watch on Saturday, August 11th from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Celebrate National Honeybee Day by catching the Buzz on Bees program on Sunday, August 19th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Check out the July Programs and Events flyer for details.
Music on the Mountain
Bring your lawn chair or blanket to the top of the mountain and settle in for an evening of music at its best. The view will be spectacular. Incredible sunset almost guaranteed. And think picnic—bring your own or check out the food vendors who will be ready to serve you. It’s a big mountain; there’s room for everyone so invite your family and friends and anybody you know! The concerts are free, but donations are kindly accepted. Don't worry if rain is in the forecast; the concerts run rain or shine! Click here for more information.

Movie on the Mountain
On Friday, July 20th, join the Friends of Kings Gap on the lawn of the Cameron-Masland Mansion for a free outdoor screening of The Way, starring Martin Sheen. The Way is a funny and inspirational story about hiking the El Camino de Santiago Trail, also known as The Way of St. James. There will be pre-movie activities, and snacks will be available. Pack a picnic and bring your blankets or lawn chairs. Activities begin at 6:00 p.m. and the movie begins at 9:00 p.m. The screening is presented by the Mateya Law Firm, with additional support from UPMC Pinnacle. Rain date is Saturday, July 21st.
Garden Harvest Day
On Sunday, October 7th from noon to 5:00 p.m. celebrate the bounty of autumn with the Friends of Kings Gap, Cumberland County Master Gardeners, and Kings Gap staff. Admission is free although nominal fees will be charged for all “make and take” items. A variety of activities for all ages will feature:
- Kettle-Cooked Chicken Corn Soup
- Apple Cider Pressing
- Apple Butter Making
- Pumpkin Painting
- Bird Feeder Building
- Children’s Games and Crafts
- Hay Rides
- Mum and Pumpkin Walk
- And more…
Bring your appetite and spend an afternoon in the fresh mountain air. All activities will be held in and around the mansion area
Ghoulish Gallop Fun Run/Walk
Join the Friends of Kings Gap at the Kings Gap Environmental Education Center when the Ghoulish Gallop returns on Saturday, October 27th. We'll have some new treats...or tricks...in store for you. Hard to tell. There will be a timed morning run for those that want to compete and the traditional stroll in the afternoon for those that are out for the fun. We'll be posting updates of what to expect and details on how to register.
Holiday Open House
On Sunday, December 2nd and Sunday, December 9th from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day, enjoy this once-a-year opportunity to explore the Cameron-Masland Mansion, a gracious mountain stone villa built in 1908 as a summer home. Take a self-guided tour of both floors of the mansion in seasonal decor. Enjoy music of the season along with light refreshments including hot spiced cider and a variety of delicious cookies, which will be offered throughout the afternoon each day. All ages are welcome to attend this free event. Please join us for the festivities!
