April Programs and Events
Spend a day helping with spring cleanup around the mansion area as April kicks off with a Volunteer Workday on Saturday, April 1st. Go in search of Spring Salamanders and Frogs on Saturday, April 1st. Join park staff to Experience a Spring Night on Saturday, April 8th. Join the Friday Sunset Hike on Friday, April 14th. The Earth Day Volunteer Day on Saturday, April 22nd provides another opportunity to help with projects around the park. Attend Geocaching for Beginners on Sunday, April 23rd to learn more about this growing sport. Enjoy the Arbor Day Forest Hike on Saturday, April 29th. Spring Garden Days & Plant Sale
On Saturday, May 13th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 14th from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., you can find delightful native additions to your landscape or for that perfect Mothers’ Day gift. There will be lots of irresistible plant choices to tempt you, and all come from local native plant nurseries and the Kings Gap garden. Cumberland County master gardeners and Kings Gap staff will provide answers to your gardening questions. The plant sale area will not open before 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Garden Days will feature Garden Tours, Programs on Butterfly Gardening and Bee Basics, Free Kids Activities, and More! A food stand will be serving “Homemade” Chicken Corn Soup, Hot Dogs, Snacks, and Drinks. Look for a plant list on the Events page of the FOKG website the week before the sale. Proceeds benefit the gardens at Kings Gap.
Music on the Mountain
Bring your lawn chair or blanket to the top of the mountain and settle in for an evening of music at its best. The view will be spectacular. Incredible sunset almost guaranteed. And think picnic—bring your own or check out the food vendors who will be ready to serve you. It’s a big mountain; there’s room for everyone so invite your family and friends and anybody you know! Garden Harvest Day 2017
On Sunday, October 1st from noon to 5:00 p.m. celebrate the bounty of autumn with the Friends of Kings Gap, Cumberland County Master Gardeners and Kings Gap staff. Admission is free although nominal fees will be charged for all “make and take” items. A variety of activities for all ages will feature:
- Kettle-Cooked Chicken Corn Soup
- Apple Cider Pressing
- Apple Butter Making
- Pumpkin Painting
- Bird Feeder Building
- Children’s Games and Crafts
- Hay Rides
- Mum and Pumpkin Walk
- And more…
Bring your appetite and spend an afternoon in the fresh mountain air. All activities will be held in and around the mansion area.
Holiday Open House 2017
On Sunday, December 3rd and Sunday, December 10th from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day, enjoy this once-a-year opportunity to explore the Cameron-Masland Mansion, a gracious mountain stone villa built in 1908 as a summer home. Take a self-guided tour of both floors of the mansion in seasonal decor. Enjoy music of the season along with light refreshments including hot spiced cider and a variety of delicious cookies, which will be offered throughout the afternoon each day. All ages are welcome to attend this free event. Please join us for the festivities!
