October Programs and Events
On Saturday, October 6th from 9:00 a.m. to noon join the Volunteer Work Day to help with various park projects. Celebrate autumn a Garden Harvest Day on Sunday, October 7th from noon to 5:00 p.m. Enjoy Yoga on the Terrace on Sunday, October 7th and 14th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (Note: Yoga on the Terrace ends for the season on October 14th). Educators are invited to participate in the Project WILD Workshop on Friday, October 12th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Enjoy the beauty of autumn on Sunday, October 14th from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the Fall Foliage Hike. Join the Moonlight Walk and Campfire (intended for adults) on Saturday, October 20th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The Creepy Crawlies and Costumes: Halloween Hike takes place on Saturday, October 27th from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Join the Ghoulish Gallop 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk and 5K Trail Run on Saturday, October 27th. The Fun Run/Walk begins at 1:00 p.m. The 5K Run, originally scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m., has been cancelled. Check out the October Programs and Events flyer for details.
Owls Of Pennsylvania
This Is a free program for ages 6+, join us Friday October 26th and November 2nd at 8:00 pm in the Education Building, to learn about owls found in Pennsylvania.. Saw-Whet Owls will be featured. Licensed banders from the Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art will monitor capture nets as part of a 20+ year research project. If owls are caught, the banding and data collection process will be demonstrated indoors on a live bird. In the event of inclement weather, we will still have a program, but there will be no banding or live owls.
Ghoulish Gallop Fun Hike/Walk
Join the Friends of Kings Gap at the Kings Gap Environmental Education Center when the Ghoulish Gallop returns on Saturday, October 27th. We'll have some new treats...or tricks...in store for you. Individuals and families are HIGHLY encouraged to pre-register for this popular event. Each pre-registered hiker/walker will receive a white, logoed t-shirt to wear during the event and a chance in a grand prize drawing. Learn more or simply sign up now online! NOTE: The timed 5-K run, originally scheduled for the morning, has been cancelled.
Evening of Jazz
On Saturday, November 3rd from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. join the Friends of Kings Gap in the Cameron-Masland Mansion for a fine evening of jazz featuring the Steve Rudolph Trio. Ticket prices are $40 per person and must be purchased in advance. The ticket price includes complimentary wine, cheese, and hors d'oeuvres. This concert is underwritten in part by a generous contribution from the Shearer Family Fund of the Foundation for Enhancing Communities on behalf of R. Scott Shearer. Holiday Open House
On Sunday, December 2nd and Sunday, December 9th from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day, enjoy this once-a-year opportunity to explore the Cameron-Masland Mansion, a gracious mountain stone villa built in 1908 as a summer home. Take a self-guided tour of both floors of the mansion in seasonal decor. Enjoy music of the season along with light refreshments including hot spiced cider and a variety of delicious cookies, which will be offered throughout the afternoon each day. Holiday Coffee House
Join the Friends of Kings Gap for a Holiday Coffee House on Saturday evening, December 8th starting at 6:00 p.m. Enjoy coffee, conversation, music, and light refreshments. Phyllis Chapell and Steve Jewett will provide the music for this event. The Cameron-Masland Mansion will be decorated for the holidays.
