September Programs and Events
Wednesday Hikes for the Work Weary and Sunday Afternoon Hikes continue through the month. On Sunday, September 4th, enjoy Music on the Mountain featuring Celtic music. Take a Friday Sunset Hike on Friday, September 9th. Kayak Long Pine Run Reservoir in Michaux State Forest on Saturday, September 10th. On Saturday, September 24th, celebrate National Public Lands Day (NPLD) along with other volunteers to help improve the park you love! On Sunday, September 25th the Archery for Veterans and Their Families program provides an opportunity to learn the basic skills and safety of using a bow and arrow. On Tuesday, September 27th, educators can participate in the Project WILD educator workshop (pre-registration is required by September 22nd). Garden Harvest Day
On Sunday, October 2nd from noon to 5:00 p.m. celebrate the bounty of autumn with the Friends of Kings Gap, Cumberland County Master Gardeners and Kings Gap staff. Admission is free although nominal fees will be charged for all “make and take” items. A variety of activities for all ages will feature:

- Leaf Printing
- Apple Cider Pressing
- Apple Butter Making
- Pumpkin Painting
- Apple Butter Making
- Bird Feeder Building
- Children’s Games and Crafts
- Corn Shelling and Cracking

Ghostly Trail and Zombie Evasion Fun Run/Walk
Join the Friends of Kings Gap on Saturday, October 29th for the Ghoulish Gallop One-Mile Fun Run/Walk. The $5 individual or $15 family registration fee includes a T-shirt, which will be worn as part of the race. The run begins and ends at the Kings Gap Environmental Education Center parking lot at the top of the mountain. The course will follow a winding path complete with ghouls and zombies. Runners will stop at four designated goblin stops to devour gooey treats in the prescribed ghostly method. Drips, splatters, mouth smears, and hand wipes are highly encouraged on your fresh white shirt to scare away the monsters. The registration form contains complete details. Evening of Jazz
On Friday, November 4th from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. join the Friends of Kings Gap in the Cameron-Masland Mansion for a fine evening of jazz featuring the Steve Rudolph Trio.
Ticket prices are $35 per person and must be purchased in advance. The proceeds benefit the Friends of Kings Gap in our ongoing efforts to support, protect, and enhance Kings Gap State Park and its programs. Holiday Open House
On Sunday, December 4th and December 11th from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day, enjoy this once-a-year opportunity to explore the Cameron-Masland Mansion, a gracious mountain stone villa built in 1908 as a summer home. Enjoy music of the season as you take a self-guided tour of both floors of the mansion in seasonal decor. Light refreshments will be offered throughout the afternoon each day.
