May Programs and Events
Pitch in for the Volunteer Work Day on Saturday, May 5th. Choose either park work from 9:00 a.m. to noon or trail work from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. On Sunday mornings from May 6th through November 11th, join the Friends of Kings Gap for Yoga on the Terrace from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. each day (rain or shine). Treat mom to some fresh air and exercise followed by a unique dining experience in the historic Cameron-Masland Mansion during the Mothers on the Mountain Hike and Luncheon on Sunday, May 13th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (see below). Join a Wednesday Workout Hike on Wednesday, May 16th, 23rd, and 30th from 6:00 p.m. to sunset. Learn about Spring Salamanders and Frogs on Saturday, May 19th from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Archery for Families on Sunday, May 27th from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. covers the basics of archery technique and safety, and provides an opportunity to perfect your skills. Music on the Mountain
Bring your lawn chair or blanket to the top of the mountain and settle in for an evening of music at its best. The view will be spectacular. Incredible sunset almost guaranteed. And think picnic—bring your own or check out the food vendors who will be ready to serve you. It’s a big mountain; there’s room for everyone so invite your family and friends and anybody you know! Garden Harvest Day
On Sunday, October 7th from noon to 5:00 p.m. celebrate the bounty of autumn with the Friends of Kings Gap, Cumberland County Master Gardeners, and Kings Gap staff. Admission is free although nominal fees will be charged for all “make and take” items. A variety of activities for all ages will feature:
- Kettle-Cooked Chicken Corn Soup
- Apple Cider Pressing
- Apple Butter Making
- Pumpkin Painting
- Bird Feeder Building
- Children’s Games and Crafts
- Hay Rides
- Mum and Pumpkin Walk
- And more…
Bring your appetite and spend an afternoon in the fresh mountain air. All activities will be held in and around the mansion area
Holiday Open House
On Sunday, December 2nd and Sunday, December 9th from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day, enjoy this once-a-year opportunity to explore the Cameron-Masland Mansion, a gracious mountain stone villa built in 1908 as a summer home. Take a self-guided tour of both floors of the mansion in seasonal decor. Enjoy music of the season along with light refreshments including hot spiced cider and a variety of delicious cookies, which will be offered throughout the afternoon each day. All ages are welcome to attend this free event. Please join us for the festivities!
