Kings Gap state park is one of only four parks in Pennsylvania to have an Environmental Education Center. Frank Masland Jr. crafted a deal in the early 1970s that led to the creation of Kings Gap park. First he gifted his Kings Gap property to the Nature Conservancy, who then sold it to the state at half the appraised value. Frank was then able to claim his loss as a tax write-off, making it a win-win for everybody.
Masland strongly believed that environmental education needed to be taught to al school children, starting in kindergarten. The Kings Gap Environmental Education Center is helping to make Frank’s dream a reality.
